Goat Thing of the Day: Bunny Takes on Goat

Hello, and welcome to Goat Thing of the Day, a weekly series that wines, dines, and bovines.

Much of today’s goat stuff comes from Barbara of Tanzania 5.0.

Goat Pictures

Here’s an art piece seen at the Native American exhibit at the Heard Museum in Phoenix Arizona.

So, if those goats could talk, they would be a herd overheard at The Heard.

Meanwhile on another random wall…

Goats in the News

So there are these lactating spider goats, or something like that.

As we all know, spiders are cannabilistic and territorial, so they don’t make good silk producers. So, all you have to do is clone the spider silk gene, stick it in a goat embryo and voila! Spider silk-producing goats. Easy, right?

According to the article:

The stronger-than-Kevlar, stretchier-than-nylon fibers could be used in medicine to replace torn ligaments and tendons.

Once again, per the usual, goats rock.

Goats on Video

Today’s wacky video comes from Thomas of 101 Things, in which a goat and a bunny lock horns. Who’s your money on?

I can’t remember the last time I laughed that hard. The bunny vs. goat video is hysterical, especially when the bunny gets his friends to help him take on the goats!

    Go Bunny!

The goats are not actually producing silk, they are producing a protein dense milk that is a medium to grow the silk in…..I think….because the article is hard to follow. But you can tell from the picture the researcher feels a great deal of affection for his goats. But wouldn’t it be cool if the goats could shoot out silk from their hoofs like Spiderman and swing around the barnyard? It would be really good for mountain goats up in the cliffs…

You’re right, Barbara. I skipped a step. Actually, I probably skipped 437 steps for the sake of brevity, and in so doing, it could easily sound like I’m saying the goats outright produce straight silk. But yeah, Spidey goats would be cool.

That bunny kicks butt. Get it? Kicks “butt.” Okay, it wasn’t really that funny. ;)

That goat is a bully yo. Come on, that poor soft furry bunny poses no challenge at all. But I like the bunny’s spirit. I think s/he is the winner for sheer audacity!! lol!

You crack me up… I love your “herd overheard at The Heard” caption.
You can tell that researcher loves his goats, as he should. Like the article says, they chose goats over cows because they were friendlier and easier to work with.
I totally LOVED the bunny video, he really had some balls - I was rooting for him. Then he went and got his bunny friends to help, but they ran away and he finally realized he was beaten. Poor little fella.
Thanks for sharing… have a great holiday!
