Christmas in the Capitol. Also? Harvest Festival Dudes.

Not THAT Capitol. Our Capitol. The one in California.

We risked our lives the other night walking around downtown Sacramento after sunset trying to find variously advertised holiday lights. I’m sorry, but “somewhere in downtown starting at the waterfront and working toward midtown” doesn’t work for me. Can you pick a frickin’ street? And not a path that makes us walk past the Greyhound Bus Station? I mean, yikes!

Nevertheless, since there was more than one of us, I felt slightly safer walking from the ice skating rink at St. Rose of Lima Park…

to the Capitol.

And this is what happens when you try to mess with your point-and-shoot’s ISO setting without a tripod (or the manual) because you think the previous picture is too dark (and because you don’t need no stinkin’ manual).

And that’s the best one of the lot.

Frack.

Oh, hey, did any of you see the dudes at the entrance to the Harvest Festival at Cal Expo this year? I’m talking real honest to goodness “dudes”.

Harvest Festival Dudes

Don’t they look like the rootinest, tootinest cowboys this side of the Pecos? What is a Pecos anyway?

What fun! I just love Christmas lights.

So I won’t be doing the White Elephant exchange, because right now I’m trying to get rid of stuff and the idea of sending off something hideous only to get something else hideous in return is not in keeping with my never ending quest to remove excess crap from my life. But it sounds like fun and I’m sure it will be. I will look forward to reading everyone posts about it.

    Merry Christmas, my funny friend.

  6. I’ve never been to Sacramento before so both shots look pretty darn good to me. Thanks for risking life and limb to get them.

The Harvest Festival– First time I discovered it I lived in San Francisco and thought I’d hit the craft heaven jackpot. I loved it. Then I moved to Los Angeles and found it again in Long Beach. I always cracked up at the costumes and characters they had working the crowd, but I LOVED the food and of course all the shopping! Thanks for the reminder, I’ll have to watch for it again next year.

Thanks for another great year of blogging, Margaret. It’s been a blast!

    Merry Christmas, xoxo jj

I thought Pecos were like Nachos, or Tacos. I guess not, hmmm?

Merry Christmas Margaret, I hope you have a wonderful holiday! 🙂

  8. I love looking at Christmas lights… but I don’t do a walking trip because of my back, we drive. I actually like both of your photos of the capitol.
Those are some awesome looking “dudes” – only one question… What the hell are they trying to ride???
