I Wish Facebook Had a Few More Filters

I’m not a very political person. But my friend, Joe Political Extremist Guy, is and it can be overwhelming at times. So much hyperbole. So much anger. So much threatening to leave the country because anybody in power not aligned with his whichever-wing political views is bringing this nation down. The other guy is evil, yada yada yada.

Here’s his Facebook page. Along with a few wish list items I have for Facebook in the Subscription Filtering Department.

  1. I agree with Kevin!  Morans need amensty.  In fact, I think we all beed amensty.  Maybe if we had a little more amensty, we would all be happy.  I have a Facebook friend who posted stuff like that all the time (and they were sometimes inconsistent).  I blocked him because I got tired of reading them.  Of course, Facebook has changed and now I can’t figure out how to get his messages back in case I want to see something he has to say.

  2. Yep. I can’t with all that noise either. I remove people like that from my News Feed. I don’t want to be bombarded with so much anger and hostility.

  3. Jayne says:

Uh-oh…  I think I’m as guilty as Joe.   Sorry.   I’ll double up on my Xanax.

    1.  Hee hee! Actually, Jayne, I didn’t have you in mind when I did this, so you’re cool. 🙂

      1. Jayne says:

That’s good. I know I can be a pain in the ass.

  4. That post was offensive to morans. We morans will no longer “friend” anyone named Joe.

  5. Nicky says:

Yeah, but even if you filter out everything except Joe’s lunch status updates, you’ll still see things like:

    – Joe is so hungry today he could eat a horse picture on a PETA sign

    – Joe is one of the 99% of Americans who had heartburn after eating at Taco Bell

    – Guess where Joe is having breakfast? Yup, Amnesty International House of Pancakes!

    – Make love, not waffles

    – Joe is pro-choice of toppings on one’s hamburger

And so on, and so forth…

I’m just as likely to unsubscribe from a political extremists FB updates as I am to unsubscribe from the menu junkie updates.  You know: steak and mashed potatoes with shredded cabbage and creme brulee for dinner.  If you’re not serving it at my house I’m not interested.  I am guilty of the “My Cat’s so Cute!” photos but he is so it’s cool.

    1.  I actually don’t mind people posting cute videos and photos of their cats and kids. And as long as your cat isn’t running for office and you think by my not voting for him, I’m contributing to the downfall of our country, then we’re good.

  7. Nezzy says:

    Woohoo for filters dearie!!!

I’m all go for that one.  :o)

    Have a beautiful week girl!

    1.  Thanks, Nezzie! You too.

  8. Random Chick says:

I am so with you on this one. One of my friends is a “religious extremist.” I’d like to filter out all her WWJD and how many times a day she prays.

    1.  Yeah, that’s another one. Ugh. I’ve always felt that when you pray, you pray to God. Alone. Not in front of everybody. I mean, who are you trying to impress?

  9. Linda M. Rhinehart Neas says:

While facebook has helped bring awareness and change to some major areas of our society, some people carry it to the extreme.  I’m all for your filters…great idea.

    1.  I completely agree with you there. Arab Spring and US consumers getting a voice against the big companies are just a couple of great examples of useful, constructive uses of social media. But as with all good things, there are abusers of them. Just because God gave you a mouth, doesn’t mean you should be flapping your gums all the time. He gave you ears, too.

  10. Barbara says:

I so agree! I’ve unsubscribed from comments by two friends, one liberal and one conservative, because I just can’t stand all the anger and all the repetition. It doesn’t matter at all whether I agree with them or not, they just make me tired and nervous. But I love pictures of peoples’ pets and grandkids!

    1.  Tired and nervous, yes. I can appreciate that they are passionate about what they believe in and that’s great. But it does grate on my happy, serene, why-can’t-we-all-just-get-along soul.

I believe in blah blah blah too.

  12. Pricilla says:

I think you need a little AbbyGoat icon. That would do wonders for Facebook.
I also think Joe Extremist Political Guy needs a dictionary. Or spellcheck. Or something.

What, no ‘amensty’ for all the ‘morans?’  What is this country coming to?!  (hee)
