Goat Thing of the Day: A Belated Valentine. And Childhood Goat Trauma

Meet Valentine:

Valentine, baby angora goat

Artist and photographer Ann Ranlett captured this three-day-old Angora cutie while visiting the A Chance For Bliss Animal Sanctuary in Penryn, California. Here are Valentine’s ears defying gravity:

As Ann told me, he’s “super schmoopy adorable”. You can see more of Valentine, along with other photos, from Ann’s photostream on Flickr.

If fellow bloggers Wendy Aarons and Cathy Zielske had not discussed goat trauma on Twitter the other day, I would have never found out about the Childhood Goat Trauma Foundation. This blessed miracle of an organization came together to help those of us who may still twitch at the sound of “Baa”, cringe when we rub over that hoof scar from so long ago. Thank You CGTF! And thanks to Wendy and Cathy. They are all live-savers! By the way, if you’re still not convinced of the tremendous work of these good people, you should read the CGTF testimonials. Here are a couple of examples from their site:

“I thought that the goats were out to get me. People called me paranoid, but since attending one of the CGTF’s workshops, I know I’m right. Goats ARE out to get me! And now I can protect myself!”

– Anne R., Houston, TX

“It’s good to know that someone can help unfortunate children like my Freddie. He’s like he was before we took him to the petting zoo. CGTF is a godsend!”

– Christine N., Fargo, ND

I started to say that, with headlines like these, we must not be at war…except that we are. I welcome some cute goat relief (or ox tongue doughnut relief, which was the best diversion I could find to blog on yesterday) in this era of angst, strang, and durm. Wonder if they'll be doing Recession Era Humor Retrospectives when our grandkids reach their thirties.

“The majority of goat traumas occur before age eight and after age fifty-two.”

I will be fifty-two next month. I am scared!

Great goat photos. Valentine is adorable. Love the street dude. Something that's been bugging me. How do you get panties (or any type of clothing) on a goat ? That can't be easy.

Man I must be really warped, I kept waiting for the “childhood goat trauma” punchline – am I being punked?!

    • http://www.nannygoatsinpanties.com/ Margaret (nannygoats)

Sheila…yes and no. I mean, yes the site is a joke. I think. I mean, I wondered too because it wasn't quite over the top enough – I could totally see this being a serious site. However once someone told me to go to the site and mouse over the goat logo, I figured the jig was up.

You know….most people haven't had the privilege of actually living with goats–and it's amazing. I was raised on a ranch in Co and along with 300 other animals–we bred goats. (mum actually got into state competitions and such) Raised on goat milk cheese and ice-cream, I can remember embarassing my parents the few times we ate out as I distained cows milk! lol I think the magic of goats is their unbelievably strong individuality. They can be funny or sweet, cantankerous, devious, darlilng….and the energy of baby goats is simply astounding. I would laugh and laugh as they ran UP the trees, bounded off the barn…you could almost hear them giggle.

Thank you HUGE for bringing back those incredible memories…goats rock.

Chantel – you are SO welcome. I had no idea what goats were like until this blog came along and people started sharing their goats with me. Thank you for sharing some of your memories!

I love the Angora goat, Valentine and I think it is really nice of the people of India to give their old clothes to the goats to keep them warm.
I'm hoping the CGTF is really just a joke, but I'm really not sure, it is quite funny. I DO like the t-shirts, especially the one for the doggies.
